Continuing Activities

The Quaker community has encouraged its members to participate in the work for positive social change since its beginnings. As Quakers, Abington Monthly Meeting members feel a shared sense of responsibility to address issues of peace and social justice, in our community and the world.

Here are some of the ongoing projects that Abington Monthly Meeting members support:

Sandwich Making for Face to Face in Germantown
On periodic Sundays, Friends gather to donate their time to prepare sandwiches which are taken to a food distribution center in Germantown. Children are encouraged to participate.

Peace Demonstrations
During the summer months, children have helped to create peace signs for Meeting members and the children to carry during our Mothers Day Public Witness for Peace and other special events. Our Peace and Social Justice Committee will also organize peace demonstrations on an ad hoc basis.

Non-Perishable Food Collection
We collect non-perishable food items for local food pantries. We also collect and distribute personal care products, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, etc.

AMM Right-Sharing Fund
This fund provides financial aid for Local Service Organizations who serve families and individuals in their time of need.

Abington Monthly Meeting members and attenders also minister to each other through active participation in various committees. Please refer to our Handbook for more information, and please browse our Announcements and Newsletters
